“At coalition level, we have decided to meet the demands of young doctors regarding salary levels,” said Kostadin Angelov, chair of the parliamentary health committee, at a meeting of the panel, as reported by BNR's Mila Mladenova.

Young doctors have been calling for a basic gross salary equivalent to 3.5 times the national minimum wage, while nurses, physiotherapists, and medical assistants should receive 150 per cent of the country's average wage.

The minimum salaries of medical professionals in healthcare facilities will be set out in the National Health Insurance Fund budget, with none falling below the levels proposed in the three options scheduled for discussion by the health committee today, the lawmaker explained. He added that other healthcare workers would also see salary increases.

Angelov also announced that the health fund’s budget would increase by 400 million BGN (€204 million) next year, reaching approximately 10 billion BGN (€5.11 billion).
