Citizens should remain calm about the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria from January 1, 2026, as the Bulgarian National Bank and commercial banks are ready for all processes related to the currency conversion and distribution of euro banknotes. This was stated by BNB Governor Dimitar Radev during a joint press conference with European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde after a forum in Sofia on the topic "Bulgaria on the threshold of the eurozone", BTA reported.

According to Radev, the BNB, in close cooperation with the ECB and the national central banks in the eurozone, has very carefully organized the entire process surrounding the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria. He recalled that throughout January, payments in the country will be able to be made in both leva and euro, and electronic transactions will now be made in euro.

"Our banking system is strong, well-capitalized, highly liquid and is fully prepared to meet the increased activity in the first days of the year and to guarantee a confident start to Bulgaria's membership in the eurozone," Rad assured.
