Today, the deputy PMs and ministers of transport of Bulgaria and North Macedonia Grozdan Karadjov and Aleksandar Nikoloski will sign an agreement on the preparation, construction and operation of a cross-border railway tunnel between the two countries. The document will be signed at the railway station in Gyueshevo.
The ceremony will be attended by representatives of the European Commission, the diplomatic missions of the EU and NATO countries to Bulgaria, of the European Investment Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the World Bank.
The cross-border tunnel is a key element of the Western Balkans-Eastern Mediterranean transport corridor and the strategic Corridor No. 8. Its development will provide the missing railway connection between Bulgaria and North Macedonia and will improve transport access between the Black Sea and the Adriatic.
The planned length of the tunnel is around 2.4 kms. and half of it will be on the territory of Bulgaria.
