On 10 November, the European Music Festival will be offering music lovers a thrilling event. 2,500 years after the legendary Italian city of Naples was founded, Sofia will be celebrating the anniversary with a special event – a concert by Ars Nova Napoli, one of the world’s most famous and highly appreciated Neapolitan folk music formations. The virtuoso musicians will take audiences to the heart of Southern Italy with their new interpretations of folklore songs and original compositions inspired by Mediterranean culture. The programme, which kicks off at 8 PM at Sofia Live Club, will offer an insight into the rich Italian music tradition.
The formation Ars Nova Napoli was founded in 2009. Their first performances were in an urban environment which they used as a stage. In pursuit of street art as a means of free expression, the musicians played in streets and marketplaces throughout Italy, at weddings and parties, and took part in festivals in Spain, France, Greece and Switzerland.
As time went by, Ars Nova Napoli accumulated an impressive repertoire covering the musical traditions of different parts of Italy, Greece and the Balkans. The concert in Sofia is organized by the Italian embassy in Bulgaria and the Italian Cultural Institute, with the support of the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The celebration of the jubilee is coordinated by the national committee Naples 2500 – an initiative with a diverse programme of events dedicated to the city’s unique cultural heritage.
