Convictions for high-level corruption in Bulgaria have been few so far. Sustained progress against high-level corruption is needed. This was stated by EU Commissioner for Justice, Michael McGrath, after the meeting of the EU General Affairs Council. The rule of law in Bulgaria, Germany, Ireland and the Czech Republic has been a topic of discussion, BTA reports.
There are still gaps in the rules on the integrity of employees in high-level positions. Additional efforts are needed to achieve efficiency in the work and independence of the Anti-Corruption Commission, McGrath added.
Over the past 10 months, Bulgaria has managed to catch up on its backlog of the last 3 years in the reforms envisaged in the 2022 Recovery and Resilience Plan. This was what Justice Minister Georgi Georgiev, who participated in the council, said.
