Iliana Iotova: President Radev’s proposal for a referendum on the euro is still in Parliament

According to Iliana Iotova, the time for a referendum on the euro has irreversibly passed

“The time for a referendum on the euro has irreversibly passed”, said Vice President Iliana Iotova, BGNES reported. “I see no grounds for President Rumen Radev to submit once again to Parliament his proposal for a referendum on the euro. The ruling of the Constitutional Court is categorical. The President’s proposal for a referendum on the euro is still registered with the National Assembly. The procedure should continue from where it was halted”, said Iliana Iotova.

According to her, a little more than a month before January 1, 2026, the governing majority will in no way allow a discussion on holding the referendum on the euro. Vice President Iotova accused those in power of depriving people of their right to an opinion. In her view, the focus now must be on overcoming the crises that lie ahead.
