The 1990s were the renaissance of rock music in Bulgaria. New faces stepped onstage and the Horizont band was among those. Its members – Valeri Slavchev /vocals, guitar/, Valeri Ivanov /bass, back vocals/, Hariton Stamenov /keyboard, back vocals/ and Boyko Ivanov /drums/. The cover of Till the Last Breath /Do Posleden Dah/ of their colleagues from Tangra, recorded back in 1994 played a key role for the formation. The band members have never separated ever since – they compose, have concerts, sing and play… This all has been going on for over two decades now. The release of a new album was the reason why RB’s Sibila Lilova met with front man Valeri Slavchev, who established the band. The project is the 4th of this kind in the band’s history, containing 11 songs, as the cover has been shot by photographer Konstantin Lanski.
“The album is named Too Curious /Prekaleno Liubopitni/, with no song with that title included in it,” Valeri says. “Curiosity was precisely the reason why we reached to guitars, formed the band and started touring. That was how we made it till the 20th jubilee. We want to be still too curious, in order to continue with our development as musicians. Perhaps the title is a cross-reference to our name – we keep on looking for new and new horizons. We have written and composed all the songs. We were about to release the CD last year, but we faced some inspiration issues and the lack of it. Hence the delay. On the other hand, the release now coincides with the 20th jubilee of the band. The promotion of the album will be on May 8 in Sofia. Then we go on with concerts in Plovdiv, Varna, Kyustendil and Burgas. We will try to visit several other major towns.”
The musicians released their previous album 7 years ago, but over this period they had several singles, winning awards and conquering different music charts.
“Three of the songs have already had their videos – Men Don’t Cry, Do They? /Nali Mazhete Ne Plachat/, Time /Vreme/ and Tears Don’t Trust My Palm /Salzite Ne Viarvat Na Moyata Dlan/. We are currently finishing the edition of the video to on of our latest compositions – Sadness for Love /Taguvaiki za Liubovta/. The album also has Shining Star /Siyaeshta Zvezda/, which won the audience award at the Golden Spring contest with the BNR. So, we opted for songs that have already been a success. Tears Don’t Trust My Palm spent five weeks in a row at the Escalator chart of the BNR. Time was placed second in the Bulgarian Music chart for 2012 of BG Radio. I think the album deserves the attention of our fans.”
Too Curious is an acoustic album. The four musicians rely on real sound, nothing artificial. The surprise of the CD is the duet of Valeri Slavchev and Maria Mutafchieva from Mary Boys Band in the song, named Don’t Fall Asleep Without Youe6ef17f15e0af39343987f9ec22ddf76 /Ne Zaspivam Bez Teb/.
