Bulgaria’s Deputy Premier and Minister of Education and Science Meglena Kuneva requested assistance for the Bulgarian teachers at a meeting with the leadership of the America for Bulgaria Foundation. Minister Kuneva met with Nancy Schiller, Deputy Chairperson and President of the foundation. Minister Meglena Kuneva pointed out that 45,000 Bulgarian teachers have to go on pension in the next 10 years, which is a big problem. In Meglena Kuneva’s view, more public and private investments must be made in the qualification of the teachers. America for Bulgaria foundation has invested nearly USD 100 million in the past 6 years in Bulgaria’s education system under various programmes, Nancy Schiller announced. The foundation works with 783 schools in 260 Bulgarian towns and reached 210,000 pupils, 7,000 teachers and 150 school principals. The foundation also partners with Bulgarian universities, libraries and community centers. It financed a total of 125 educational projects and programmes.
