Eurostat has reported that between 1990 and 2015 energy consumption in Bulgaria has decreased by as much as 33 percent. This places Bulgaria among one of the EU countries with the largest decline in this respect.
The main source for the EU energy system in 2015 remained fossil energy sources (coal, natural gas, oil and petroleum products).
