Hot topic in the Bulgarian press today is the sudden change of Chief Secretary of Interior Ministry, Georgi Kostov, which happened yesterday by a decree of President Rumen Radev on a proposal by Interior Minister Plamen Uzunov. Under the headline "Accusations of political pressure in Ministry of Interior," the Sega Daily writes that he Minister and the Chief Secretary have started a war, exchanging accusations of political pressure just days after claiming that they had good professional relationship and would work together. The paper points out that the Chief Secretary replied on claims for exerting political pressure with comments that the interior minister himself acted under political pressure from Prime Minister Gerdzhikov.

Dnevnik publishes the comments by former Prime Minister Boyko Borissov that the change of the Interior Ministry Chief Secretary following the recent changes of district governors, showed that the BSP was preparing to buy the elections. "Trud" and "24 Hours" point out that caretaker Prime Minister Gerdzhikov reacted with irony to this assessment, saying that its author deserved a Nobel Prize.

"Standard" recalls that Secretary Georgi Kostov who was ousted yesterday took office back in 2015 after the scandalous resignation of then Interior Minister Veselin Vuchkov. Vuchkov left voluntarily because he insisted on replacing then-Secretary Svetlozar Lazarov and head of SANS Vladimir Pisanchev, but Borissov kept them in office. After Vuchkov left, though, Borissov requested and received the resignations of Pisanchev and Lazarov. After that the new Interior Minister Rumyana Bachvarova called for Georgi Kostov to be appointed as chief secretary, in order continuity in the Interior Ministry to be preserved, Standard writes.
