The fire which broke out at the waste disposal plant in the village of Shishmantsi near Plovdiv yesterday morning, spreading over a large territory, is now under control. There is still smoke in the area, but no direct danger to people.

According to Tsvyatko Deshev, spokesperson for the Plovdiv fire department, the fire is now far less intense.

Emergency crews will remain on the spot throughout the day.  A mobile air and water quality analysis laboratory, dispatched by the Environment Ministry is monitoring the situation. No instances of exceeded limit values of any individual indexes have been reported. Yet there are a great many complaints of smoke by people in the area. Environmental experts are still advising people not to go out of doors.
