Bulgarian women’s volleyball team with dramatic loss to Russia in Baku

Bulgaria’s women’s national volleyball team missed the opportunity of qualifying directly for the quarterfinals of the European championship in Azerbaijan and Georgia.

The Bulgarian team started out with a 2-1 lead, but then lost dramatically to the champion Russia by с 2-3 (25-21, 20-25, 25-23, 21-25, 13-15) in the last match from Group C, played to an audience of around 2,000 in the national gymnastics arena in Baku. Thus they come second in the final standings with 2 wins, 1 loss and 5 points and will be playing in the playoffs for Eurovolley 2017. In the playoffs they will be playing versus the 3rd team from Group A – which team that will be will become clear after the Azerbaijan-Germany match later this evening. The playoffs will be on Wednesday, 27th of September.
