Bulgarian Nuclear Regulatory Agency extends life of 5th unit of Kozloduy NPP

Photo: library

The Bulgarian Nuclear Regulatory Agency issued a new ten year license for exploitation to the 5th unit of Kozloduy nuclear power plant. This is the maximum term allowed by the law, although conclusions made after the end of the programme aimed at expanding the lifespan of the nuclear reactor show that it can function safely until 2047. After the expiration of the ten-year license Kozloduy has to apply again for a new license. Thus, for the first time a Bulgarian nuclear facility will be able to produce electricity after the end of its project resource.
