In Brussels, where Bulgarian President Rumen Radev arrived for the official opening of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU, he told reporters that he strongly opposed the ratification of the Istanbul Convention.

According to the Bulgarian Head of State, a convention alone could not prevent violence, but national laws, adequate police and justice action, and especially good upbringing could deal with this problem.

The President expressed an expectation that a referendum would not be held on the topic, as it would cost society time, energy and money.
