Vice President Iliana Iotova: If President Radev had appointed the caretaker cabinets, the situation would be different

It is obvious that there is something wrong with the way the elections were held, Vice President Iliana Iotova told BNT. A few days ago, she described the newly elected 51st National Assembly as "illegitimate" because of the many signals of violations and calls for the vote to be annulled, noting that no one believed in the veracity of the results.

According to the vice-president, the blame cannot be laid solely at the door of the Ministry of the Interior or the Central Electoral Commission. "Immediately after the elections, there was talk of necessary changes to the electoral code - it is better to learn from the experience rather than continue to throw political qualifications at each other and make excuses," she said.

Iliyana Iotova also mentioned "the heated discussion about the legitimacy of voting by machine, where the blame lies - with the election organisers or with the company that provides these machines".

Commenting on the composition of a possible regular government, the vice-president said that "we need people who will stand with their faces and political backgrounds and take responsibility. This is the first condition for the stability of a cabinet," she stressed. In her words, if President Rumen Radev had appointed the caretaker cabinets, the situation would be different now.
