The money spent so far on the project for a second Bulgarian nuclear power plant in Belene cannot be restored unless a power plant is built, Bulgaria’s Minister of Energy Temenuzhka Petkova said at the ATOMEXPO International Forum in Sochi, Russia. The Bulgarian cabinet will soon request from the National Assembly a mandate to carry out the project. According to the plans of the Bulgarian government, the nuclear power plant should be built on a market principle and without state guarantee. If the Bulgarian cabinet receives a mandate from the country’s Parliament, the procedure for choosing strategic investor or investors in Belene NPP can start by the end of 2018, Minister Petkova contends.
