A Mi-17 military helicopter crashed during a training flight over Krumovo airbase in Southern Bulgaria. Two crew officers were killed and the flight engineer was injured. His injuries are not life-threatening.

At a special briefing, Defence Minister Krasimir Karakachanov said the most probable cause of the crash was a mechanical fault. The helicopter was the last Mi-17 in use by the army since 1989. Two years ago it underwent an overhaul. The same machine flew the Bulgarian flag during the military parade marking St. George’s Day on May 6 in Sofia.
