Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev vetoes amendments to Penal Code

Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev vetoed some of the amendments to the Criminal Code which allow for the delay by up to 48 hours of the notification of the family or the employer of the accused persons. President Radev voiced even a stronger concern over the provisions that envisage the possibility to delay by up to 24 hours the notification of parents of minors, the motifs of Bulgaria’s head of state Radev further read. President Radev supports the counter-terrorism measures and the measures against organized crime and described them as reasonable and justifiable, but disagrees with the approach of the Bulgarian lawmakers. There is possibility for disproportional infringement of rights and exceptions may turn into a rule without specifying the circle of persons and the crimes for which notification can be delayed, Rumen Radev also points out in his motifs.
