Bulgaria insists that the EU provides timely financing to the veterinary programmes against the spread of African swine fever. At the Agriculture and Fisheries Council in Brussels Bulgaria’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Desislava Taneva said that Bulgaria was expecting to receive financial aid for the veterinary activities done in 2018. The African swine fever is a huge threat to Bulgaria, because this country has very well-developed swine breeding. Its gross produce amounted to nearly EUR 130 million last year, Minister Taneva said. In Bulgaria pork is the most preferred meat on the market, Desislava Taneva pointed out. Our colleagues agreed to introduce additional food control measures at the borders, Minister Taneva went on to say. In her words the imported food may contribute to the spread of African swine fever.
