Bulgaria may be sanctioned by the European institutions with over EUR 500 million due to the bad waste management, the MEP from Renew Europe Group and former Minister of Environment and Water Iskra Mihaylova announced in an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio commenting the case related to the Italian waste found on Varna Port. The import of waste in Bulgaria has exceeded the capacity of the companies to treat waste which is a result of the lack of control, MEP Mihailova pointed out. She reminded that in 2013 and 2014 Bulgaria had problems with waste utilization and the European Commission started infringement procedure against this country for unauthorized landfills and that such dump sites still exist in Bulgaria.
