The budget for people with disabilities has been doubled in the past two years, Bulgaria's Social Affairs Minister Denitsa Sacheva said at a press briefing today. In 2018, the costs amounted to approximately 230 million euros /458,141,835 leva/ and in 2020 they are nearly 500 million euros /921,766,000 leva/.

Minister Sacheva also explained that three new laws were adopted since then - laws on social services, personal assistants, and amendments to the People with Disabilities Act.
She described the recent protests of mothers of children with disabilities from the organization "The System is Killing Us" as "active provocation" and "yet another malicious happening" organized by former Bulgria's ombudsman Maya Manolova. According to Minister Sacheva, what is happening on the street "is not the agenda of people with disabilities" and "these are not the policies they need," the BNR reports.
