The anti-government protests in Bulgaria are into their 40th day after GERB party submitted a draft of a new constitution to the National Assembly. The three blockades in the centre of Sofia continue – at Eagle’s Bridge, in the space between the Presidency building and the Council of Ministers, and at Sofia University. The traditional evening protest starts at 7 PM.

A national nurses’ protest started in front of the Health Ministry building at 6 PM. The nurses say that the authorities are absolutely neglecting medical professionals in the conditions of the coronavirus pandemic. They are demanding better working conditions and higher pay.

Earlier today protesters from BOEC civil movement briefly blocked the main entrance of the Ministry of Justice, again demanding the resignation of the government and of the prosecutor general.

In the Black Sea city of Varna the blockade of the intersection in front of city hall has continued for two weeks.

In Varna, the protesters demanding the resignation of the government and of Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev were joined by President Rumen Radev. The Bulgarian President stated that the aim of the draft constitution submitted by GERB party today is an attempt to substitute society’s agenda.

“Bulgarians in many towns across Bulgaria and abroad are calling out “Resign!. This government’s biggest fear is of fair elections with machine voting. There can be only one way out of the crisis – resignation, and a return to the rule of law. I call on all people who hold Bulgaria’s future dear not to fall into Premier Borissov’s trap,” President Rumen Radev said, as quoted by BNT.
