Unification Day marked with modest ceremonies because of Covid-19
The 135th anniversary of the Unification of Bulgaria was marked with a solemn changing of the guard of honour and a modest ceremony in front of the Alexander I Battenberg memorial tomb in Sofia.
Because of Covid-19 there was no officially declared ceremony. Though on a more modest scale over the pandemic, the city of Plovdiv, as always the focus of the celebrations, hosted a special reenactment dedicated to Unification Day.
The anniversary was marked in other regional towns across the country in strict observance of the anti-epidemic measures.
Prof. Todor Kantardzhiev: There will probably be a Covid-19 vaccine in Bulgaria soon
The coronavirus vaccine is expected to be ready at the end of autumn or the beginning of next year at the latest, Prof. Todor Kantardzhiev, Director of the National Centre of Parasitic Diseases said for Nova TV.
In his words it is thanks to the hot and dry weather that the number of Covid-19 cases in the country is going down. With the coming of autumn, however, face masks should be worn because mask-wearing brings the virus transmission risk down to 5%.
