The government has revoked the gold prospecting permit of the Canadian company Gecon for the region of Zlogosh village near Kyustendil and the nearby terrains covering an area of 200 sq. m. in the municipalities of Treklyano and Kyustendil.

The 3-year permit for the prospecting and exploration of gold was issued in 2018. The company was supposed to invest a minimum of 3.2 million euro. According to the Environment Ministry, the permit has been retracted because of the danger to the environment and pollution of the rivers Dragovishtitsa and Treklyanska.

Environmentalists and the local authorities in Kyustendil and the region stated they were pleased with the government’s decision, the BTA reports.
