Despite the bad harvest in 2020, the potential for the export of wheat is good, indicates an analysis by the Centre for Agri-Policy Analysis CAPA. The forecast is that by next summer Bulgaria will have sold 3.7 million tons of wheat abroad. This is the lowest export level since 2015. The wheat harvested, according to CAPA is 5.2 milliion tons – at an average yield of 4.3 tons.per hectare. The Ministry of Agriculture estimates the amount of wheat harvested at one million tons less that the above figure, writes sinor.bg.
The maize harvest is expected to be 6.85 tons per hectare or 3.8 million tons, which is 3% down compared to 2019. Maize production will be down by 19% compared to the amounts over the past 5 years.
