There is wide consensus on the need for legislative changes, Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev said during the meeting with representatives of MIR political party. The talks with non-parliamentary political formations are part of a series of consultations initiated by Bulgaria’s head of state, related to the organization of the forthcoming Parliamentary elections. Bulgaria’s Vice President Iliana Yotova also took part in the consultations.
In President Radev’s view, the amendments to the Electoral Code should guarantee the right to vote to all Bulgarians who are under quarantine and in isolation, or are residing in countries with a number of restrictions, through the introduction of postal voting. A consent on providing video surveillance during the elections and the vote counting was reached as well, President Radev noted.
During the meeting with President Radev, the Chairman of the Republicans for Bulgaria party Tsvetan Tsvetanov also emphasized the need for changes to this country’s Electoral Code. According to Tsvetan Tsvetanov, the date of the regular elections should be changed as well.
According to the leader of Alternative for Bulgarian Revival (ABV) party Rumen Petkov, who also participated at today's consultations, elections should be held on May 15 and 16. President Rumen Radev said that the purpose of the consultations was to mobilize institutions, civil society organizations and parties to find solutions that would increase confidence in the electoral process.
