Bulgarian pharmaceutical company builds new vaccine-production facility
Bulgaria’s Premier Boyko Borissov inspected the construction of a new production facility of Antibiotic – Razgrad pharmaceutical company, which will be used for the manufacture of vaccines. The investment is to the tune of EUR 200 million and will create 350 new jobs, announced representatives of the pharmaceutical company. Premier Borissov said that he would inform the European Commission about the capacity of the Bulgarian pharmaceutical company to produce vaccines. In Boyko Borissov’s words, the new facility will produce hundreds of millions of vaccines that will save millions of lives.
Number of Covid-19 hospitalizations continues to increase
4,162 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Bulgaria in the past 24 hours, out of 18,449 tests performed, indicate data of the Single Coronavirus Information Portal. Almost 23% of the tests have returned positive result.The highest number of new infections was reported in Sofia-1,162, followed by Burgas-331, Varna-325 and Plovdiv-253. There are 8,332 patients in hospital, as 689 of them are in intensive care units. 1,555 people have recovered and 115 patients have died in the past 24 hours. 60 medics have tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. A total of 11,160 medics have been diagnosed with Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. There are 54,411 active cases of Covid-19 at present. 6,669 vaccines have been administered in this country in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of inoculations against the novel coronavirus to 362,721. 69,545 people have already received their second vaccine dose.
Online register for vaccinations starts functioning again
Bulgarians who wish to get vaccinated against Covid-19 can now register with the online register for vaccinations. Earlier, the procedure was suspended, because Bulgaria had temporary halted inoculations with the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine. Three vaccination centers will function in Bulgaria’s capital Sofia- in St. Ivan Rilski, St. Anna and Pirogov hospitals.
Tour operators and travel agents receive compensations to the tune of EUR 4.4 million
Bulgaria’s Ministry of Tourism has paid another EUR 4.4 million to tour operators and travel agents in the form of state subsidies. The money will be used to compensate passengers whose holiday packages have been canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. So far, 396 companies have received state subsidies to the tune of over EUR 12 million. The one-off grants amount to 4% of their turnover in 2019, excluding VAT.
