Bulgaria pays tribute to heroism of Hristo Botev and all those who laid down their lives for freedom

With a minute of silence, to the sound of sirens, at noon sharp on 2 June, Bulgaria pays tribute to the heroism of Hristo Botev and all people who laid down their lives for freedom and independence.

Patriotically-minded Bulgarians climbed Okolchitsa peak where they bowed down to the heroism of Hristo Botev and his rebels. Due to the Covid restrictions this year there was no official programme.

“It is this minute of silence that reminds us of our own responsibility to the generations – those before us, but most of all those coming after us. Our actions shape the legacy we shall leave them. A heartfelt tribute to all those who laid down their lives for the freedom of their mother country!” President Rumen Radev wrote on Facebook.
