Half an hour of hailstorm hit the town of Cherven Bryag on the evening of July 1. Ice pieces up to 140 grams fell at a speed of at least 100 km/h,  climatologist Prof. Georgi Rachev said. The disaster was exacerbated by extremely strong winds. According to Rachev, the cloud was too big and could not be broken by rockets.

Cherven Bryag MayorTsvetan Kostadinov told BNR that he had convened the Disasters and Accidents Commission. Hotlines receive damage signals. Almost all cars in the town were hit, also the roofs of many buildings have been broken. Much of the town is now without electricity due to broken wires. Trees have also been uprooted.

The storm moving from west to east caused significant material damage also in the cities of Plovdiv and Shumen.

The forecast for hail danger in Eastern Bulgaria remains also for July 2.
