A new lane for heavy trucks over 12 tons will be opened at the Danube Bridge in Ruse, announced Ruse Regional Governor Dragomir Draganov. The initiative comes from the National Customs Agency, which collects the toll for crossing the facility, reported Radio Shumen. This measure comes in response to the constantly increasing traffic. Nearly 1,600 trucks have crossed into Romania in the last 24 hours alone. The additional lane will only be opened when traffic is reduced and there are no waiting passenger cars in the queue on the Bulgarian side. There are 10 lanes at the checkpoint: six for light vehicles and four for trucks.
Since the beginning of the year, around 730,000 vehicles have crossed the bridge, of which 238,000 are trucks. This represents a 20% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
