President Radev: I do not want to talk about new elections

Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev said that he has not yet decided when and to which political force he will hand the third cabinet-forming mandate. In his view, a working cabinet can still be elected within this National Assembly. "I do not want to talk about new elections before we have exhausted all possible options for forming a regular government which enjoys broad Parliamentary support and the trust of Bulgarian citizens," Bulgaria’s head of state said during a visit to the town of Elhovo. President Radev is planning to hold new consultations with the political forces represented at the National Assembly before he hands the second cabinet-forming mandate.

At a press conference on August 11, the leader of GERB Boyko Borissov announced that his party would nominate Daniel Mitov for the position of Prime Minister and that GERB/SDS coalition would return the cabinet-forming mandate to President Radev.

 "When will Bulgaria's Parliament amend the state budget?", asked President Radev in response to a question about the second cabinet-forming mandate. Rumen Radev said that he would urge the MPs to amend this country’s budget. "We cannot leave people without financial support on the eve of coronavirus pandemic", said President Radev.
