0% VAT on bread for one year, updating of pensions by about 20% as of July 1 and higher tax breaks for families with children - these are some of the measures included in the so-called anti-crisis package approved by the coalition partners in the Bulgarian government.

Compensation will also be  provided for the high fuel prices. Thus, until the end of the year, Bulgarian citizens will enjoy a discount of 25 cents per litre of gasoline 95 and diesel, methane and propane-butane.

VAT for heating and hot water, as well as for natural gas for household consumers will be 9% within 1 year, according to another measure.

Electricity, natural gas and methane will be exempt from excise duty.

Most of the measures will be settled with the upcoming mid-year budget update. "The goal is to support those who are most severely affected by the rising inflation," Prime Minister Kiril Petkov said at a media briefing.
