Bulgaria to become regional Balkan centre for preservation of ancient architectural heritage

Bulgaria will be a regional centre for the preservation of the cultural heritage in Southeastern Europe, Bulgaria's National Institute for Immovable Cultural Heritage announced. In September, the creation of a working group is expected, which will start the integration in the field of architectural antiquities between Bulgaria, Romania, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Albania and Turkey.

The initiative is also supported by the French cultural institutes in Sofia and Bucharest and the Chaillot school (École de Chaillot) at the Centre for Architecture and Heritage in Paris (Cité de l'Architecture et du Patrimoine). Through it, the countries of the region will work together for the protection of immovable cultural heritage and will seek European funding for common projects.

Experts from Bulgaria, Romania and France are already discussing the first topics of regional cooperation - seaside resorts in the 20th century and cultural exchange along the Danube River. The architectural heritage of the last century was also a special topic during the French Presidency of the Council of the EU.
