Due to a problematic project in the Ministry of Internal Affairs with an announced public procurement, for which a candidate contractor has not been found, the first payment under the Recovery and Resilience Plan may be delayed, announced the Deputy Prime Minister for European Funds Management Atanas Pekanov.

The funds to the tune of EUR 1.3 billion are expected by the end of the year. They are provided for in the budget, so not receiving them on time will be a problem for Bulgaria. The ministry will seek a solution to the case together with the European Commission, BNR reported. At the beginning of 2023, we expect a second payment under the plan of 724 million euros.

Work on the technical preparation for joining the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and entry into the Eurozone were announced by Pekanov as priorities.
