The programme for renovation of emergency centres at Bulgarian hospitals has been delayed due to a lack of money, Health Minister Asen Medzhidiev announced in Burgas after an inspection of four state-run hospitals in the country.

According to him, in many places the renovation has not started despite successful public procurement tender procedures, and in others it has been stopped because of the increased prices of materials, consumables and the claims of the builders.

For this purpose, a total of BGN 6 million should be secured by the end of the year, and the state should allocate another BGN 40 million the next year, the minister explained. He has made it his goal to visit all the hospitals to familiarize himself with their condition, as well as their readiness to deal with a possible more severe Covid-19 wave.
