The President of the Republic of North Macedonia Stevo Pendarovski congratulated Azerbaijan, Bulgaria and Greece which are helping connect the entire region.

At the ceremony in Sofia for the official launch of the Greece-Bulgaria gas interconnector, President Pendarovski stated that the new interconnector comes at a very important time for the region and for the continent, when many crises are fueling each other. That is why, in his words, the gas connection is a new opportunity to diversify the gas deliveries to the Balkans, but also to the whole of Southeastern Europe. “For our households and businesses to be able to benefit from this opportunity, North Macedonia is ready to take all necessary steps in this direction,” Stevo Pendarovski said, and added that broader European solidarity will be needed in order to place all this in a broader perspective, alongside regional cooperation.

After the ceremony, the President of North Macedonia met with Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev to discuss ways to intensify the partnership between Bulgaria and the Republic of North Macedonia in the sphere of energy and electricity supplies during the winter season. Before the meeting with Rumen Radev, a trilateral meeting with EC President Ursula von der Leyen was held to discuss the prospects of support by the European Commission to North Macedonia.
