Flu wave in Bulgaria expected to reach peak in March

The new Omicron sub-variant of the coronavirus is not more severe, does not cause more mortality, but is genetically different from the other sub-variants and "avoids vaccines". This was explained by virologist Prof. Todor Kantardzhiev in an interview for BNT. 

He added that a few days ago, the BQ.1 subvariant of Omicron was detected in the country, which began to dominate in some countries in Europe. His expectations are that after the New Year, BQ.1 will also dominate in Bulgaria, but Kantardjiev does not think that this will lead to a serious increase in Covid cases.

According to Prof. Kantardjiev, the serious flu wave in Bulgaria this season will be late in the winter season and will be in the month of March, with the influenza A strain predominating.
