"Caritas Bulgaria has once again launched its "Because we are human!" campaign to support the elderly in their right to live with dignity. Through the campaign, the Catholic organization raises funds to help 400 elderly and sick Bulgarians from 13 towns and villages. The idea is to make those who are often left on their own and out of the public eye understand that they are not forgotten and alone.
For 20 years Caritas has been helping elderly and sick people from all over the country through its Home Care service. Mobile teams of nurses and social workers visit those in need and lend a hand in caring for their health, hygiene and social life.
Since 2002, eight home care centres have been set up in the country to help the elderly in the districts of Sofia, Plovdiv, Pleven, Vratsa, Ruse and Burgas.
