Studying the Bulgarian language in schools in regions of Ukraine that are currently occupied by Russia has been suspended. The issue has been discussed in the parliamentary committee on foreign policy.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikolay Milkov, and the head of the Agency for Bulgarians Abroad, Rayna Mandzhukova, said that the occupation authorities simply do not consider it necessary to keep the Bulgarian Sunday schools functioning.
"The schools in these more than 30 settlements, which are currently under Russian occupation, plus the cities of Mariupol, Berdyansk, Primorsk and Priazovskoe, are already working with Russian curricula, which do not include the study of the Bulgarian language. Many of our teachers who taught Bulgarian are no longer in Ukraine," Mandzhukova said, quoted by BTA.
