One fifth of Bulgarians have been in a car with a driver who has consumed alcohol. 275,000 people (5% of the country’s population) were driving under the influence of alcohol, indicates data of a survey conducted by Research Center Trend, commissioned by "24 Chassa" daily.

According to the respondents, the three leading factors for road accidents are speeding (27%), driving under the influence of alcohol (24%) and driving under the influence of drugs (17%). 86% of respondents believe that legislative changes are needed to introduce stricter punishments for drunk driving or drug driving. 94% believe the state does not deal adequately with law-breakers.
