Survey: One fifth of Bulgarians have been in a car with a driver who has consumed alcohol

One fifth of Bulgarians have been in a car with a driver who has consumed alcohol. 275,000 people (5% of the country’s population) were driving under the influence of alcohol, indicates data of a survey conducted by Research Center Trend, commissioned by "24 Chassa" daily. 

According to the survey, 37% of respondents have witnessed how their relative or acquaintance get behind the wheel after using alcohol or drugs. According to the respondents, the three leading factors for road accidents are speeding (27%), driving under the influence of alcohol (24%) and driving under the influence of drugs (17%). 86% of respondents believe that legislative changes are needed to introduce stricter punishments for drunk driving or drug driving. 94% believe the state does not deal adequately with law-breakers.
