Bulgaria's Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov is taking part in a two-day meeting (February 14-15) of the defense ministers of NATO member countries in Brussels. According to the press center of the Ministry of Defense, today, February 14, immediately before the event, Minister Stoyanov will attend a meeting of the Contact Group for Ukraine, together with Bulgaria's Chief of Defense, Admiral Emil Eftimov.

Among the highlights of the forum is the strengthening of the deterrence and defense potential of the Alliance in the context of preparations for the upcoming summit in Vilnius in July this year, and also the approval of the "Political Guidelines - 2023" for the new cycle of defense planning in the Alliance. Measures to strengthen the support of the partner countries - Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova and Georgia - will also be discussed.

The meeting will also include an informal working session with the defense ministers of Finland, Sweden and Ukraine and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell focusing on the war in Ukraine and support for the country. On Monday, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg admitted that Ukraine uses more ammunition than the bloc's countries produce, while Russia has already used four times as much in its offensive. According to him, the issue of sending combat aircraft to Ukraine is not the most urgent at the moment.

Today, before the start of the meeting of the defense ministers of the Pact in Brussels, Stoltenberg specified that the discussion of the issue continues and recalled that the most important task at the moment is to provide the necessary heavy armament to Ukraine - modern air defense and ammunition that can change the situation on the battlefield.
