Caretaker Minister of Energy Rosen Hristov refuted information that "Bulgaria would provide Ukraine with the equipment for the Belene NPP" and described the information as speculation. According to a statement by the Ministry of Energy, the caretaker cabinet will not take such decisions. "Such decisions can only be adopted by the country’s National Assembly", the statement further reads.

"Interest was shown by the Ukrainian side only", Minister Hristov noted. The caretaker cabinet’s vision for the development of the energy sector envisages the construction of 4 new nuclear units - 2 reactors at the Belene site and 2 units at the Kozloduy nuclear power plant. Minister Hristov reminded that the 48th National Assembly had obliged the government to build a new nuclear unit at the Kozloduy NPP using Westinghouse AP-1000 technology.
