Anton Kisse, President of the Association of Bulgarians in Ukraine, said this in his address on this occasion. He recalled that about 1,000 Bessarabian Bulgarians, including Danail Nikolayev, Stefan Lyubomsky, Stefan Kisov, Avram Gudzhev and others, were volunteers in the Russo-Turkish war. As a sign of respect to the memory of the ancestors who sacrificed themselves for the freedom of Bulgaria, a Memorial to the Bulgarian Volunteers was erected in Bolgrad in 2012 on the initiative of the Association.
