Orthodox Christians celebrate the Resurrection of Christ

Christ is Risen! With these joyful words Orthodox Christians greeted each other at midnight on the occasion of Christ's Resurrection. The faithful across the country welcomed Easter in the temples, and in the capital many attended the festive Easter liturgy in the Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky, headed by Bulgarian Patriarch Neofit.
At midnight, His Holiness greeted the faithful in the square in front of the temple three times with "Christ is Risen". Their joyful shouts of "He is risen indeed" were accompanied by the solemn ringing of the church bells. Afterwards, the Secretary General of the Holy Synod, Bishop Gerasim, read the Patriarchal and Synodal Easter message to the Bulgarian people, saying that Christ's Resurrection is the foundation of the faith of the Orthodox Christianity.

"On the day of Christ's Resurrection, as we celebrate the victory over death and the triumph of life, let us offer even more fervent prayers to the Giver of All for all whose lives have been taken in war or other disaster, and for all those who suffer, oppressed and wronged. Let us also accompany our prayers with works of charity and kindness, of that perfect love which leads to the glory of the Cross and the light of the Resurrection," the message continues.

President Radev and caretaker Prime Minister Galab Donev attended the service at St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. It was the Head of State who first lit the Paschal candle from the Holy Fire, followed by hundreds of believers.
Today at 11.00 a.m. in the Church of Sveta Nedelya, a service of the Second Resurrection will be celebrated.
