Chicago hosted the 13th edition of the Bulgarian Folk Dance Festival Verea. 37 ensembles from all over the United States and 7 dance troupes from Canada took part in the celebration of Bulgarian national traits. According to Svetoslav Stankov, Consul General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Chicago, some of the participants traveled thousands of kilometers to take part in the festival. There were special guests from Bulgaria and Canada. An ensemble comprising Banat Bulgarians from Romania also participated at the Bulgarian Folklore Festival Verea.
Illinois State Senator Laura Murphy attended the official opening of the festival and reaffirmed her support for the Bulgarian community in Illinois, Svetoslav Stankov wrote on Facebook.
