On May 1, Panagyurishte is the center of celebrations for the 147th anniversary of the April Uprising. They began with a procession led by the Poibrenе Silver Cross. With it, the Flying rebel detachment of voivode Georgi Benkovski was blessed. A memorial service was held in the historical church "The Entry of the Theotokos" in memory of those who died in the epic battles of the April Uprising.

Residents and guests of Panagyurishte watched the historical reenactment, recreating the announcement of the uprising and the defence of the town.  The culmination of the celebration will take place in the evening with a solemn fireworks ceremony at 8:30 p.m.
