The Orthodox world celebrates the feast of the Holy Spirit. It is always observed on the day after Pentecost

For Bulgarians, the feast of the Holy Spirit (Sveti duh) is also a day of awakening of national memory, a day of protest against the robbery and falsification of the historical truth about the national and cultural identity of the Bulgarians in Macedonia.

Since 1923, after the First World War, the feast  of the Holy Spirit is also celebrated as a holiday of Macedonia. It is a symbol of the indomitable spirit of the Bulgarians in Macedonia.

Until the pro-Serbian coup of May 19, 1934, a march of Macedonian refugees was held in Sofia on the feast of the Holy Spirit. The participants in the march passed through the central streets of the capital near the embassies of the Great Powers, as a sign of protest against the unjust clauses of the Treaty of Neuilly and with a demand for the freedom of the Macedonian Bulgarians.
