On the Day of Bulgarian National Enligheners - November 1, cultural institutions across the country symbolically close their doors in protest against low wages in the sphere of culture.
Since 2015, when the latest salary hike in the sphere took place, the budget for the maintenance of cultural institutions has been shrinking at the expense of the costs for maintaining the buildings, the organizers of the protest say. They add that the budget for culture must reach 1% of GDP.
