Government approves purchase of US Stryker armoured fighting vehicles

The government has approved the agreement for the acquisition of 198 Stryker armoured fighting vehicles from the US. The estimated price of the deal is EUR 1.25 billion, and it has been approved by the parliamentary committees on finance and on defence. The Pentagon and the US State Department approved the sale of 183 armoured vehicles and equipment worth USD 1.5 billion, plus command medical and support service equipment for one NATO-standard mechanized brigade. By force of the government decision, Defence Minbister Todor Tagarev is instructed to sign the contract as soon as it is approved by parliament. The acquisition will help overcome some of the deficiencies in the capabilities of the ground forces. The start of the deliveries – 10 vehicles per month - is set for the third quarter of 2025, and the end – in 2028.
